Airtime, Data and Recharge Codes

Requirements

Use Cell C USSD codes from the Cell C SIM linked to the number or account you want to manage. USSD does not require a smartphone app, but your phone must have network signal and the SIM must be active enough to open the menu. For purchases, recharges, emergency services, or paid bundles, check the price, validity, and confirmation screen before accepting.

Cell C airtime balance code

The main Cell C airtime balance code is:

*101#

Dial *101# from your Cell C SIM and wait for the balance response. Cell C’s support FAQ also lists *147# as a USSD balance route, plus the Cell C App, Self-Service IVR, SMS “bal” or “balance” to 14302, website Self-Service, and customer care as balance-check options. (Cell C)

If *101# does not work, try *147# and choose the balance or balance enquiry option shown on screen. Do not rely only on old screenshots of menu numbers, because the live menu wording is safer than a saved option number.

For a dedicated guide, open check airtime balance USSD code.

Cell C data balance code

To check your Cell C data balance, start with:

*101#

or:

*147#

Cell C lists *101# and *147# as balance-check routes, and its emergency data page also refers users to *101# or *147# for data balance checks. (Cell C)

After dialling the code, check whether the balance shown is airtime, general data, promotional data, WhatsApp data, night data, LTE data, or another bundle type. Some bundles may have separate expiry dates or usage rules. If the USSD screen does not show the balance you need, use the Cell C App, Cell C website Self-Service, WhatsApp support, or customer care.

For the full balance guide, see check data balance USSD code.

Cell C load airtime code

To load a Cell C airtime voucher, use:

*102*voucherPIN#

Replace voucherPIN with the PIN printed on the voucher. Cell C’s recharge FAQ says an airtime recharge voucher has an airtime value and recharge PIN printed on it, and says users can recharge by buying a Cell C recharge voucher and dialling *102*voucherpin#. (Cell C)

Step by step:

  1. Scratch the voucher gently and find the recharge PIN.
  2. Dial *102*voucherPIN#.
  3. Press call from your Cell C SIM.
  4. Wait for the screen message or SMS confirmation.
  5. Check your balance before trying the same voucher again.

If the recharge fails, keep the voucher slip and PIN. You may need the date, time, voucher number, amount, store name, and Cell C number when contacting support.

For more help, read load airtime voucher USSD code.

Cell C buy data USSD code

To buy or recharge Cell C data with USSD, use:

*147#

or:

*109#

Cell C’s data bundle FAQ lists *147# or *109# as USSD routes to recharge data once a bundle is depleted. It also lists Self-Service IVR, Cell C website Self-Service, and calling 135 as alternatives. (Cell C)

Step by step:

  1. Dial *147# or *109# from your Cell C SIM.
  2. Choose the data, bundle, recharge, or extras option shown on screen.
  3. Select the bundle you want.
  4. Check the bundle size, price, validity, and any usage notes.
  5. Confirm only if the details are correct.
  6. Wait for the confirmation SMS before using the data.

Cell C Subscription and Service Codes

Cell C self service code

The main Cell C self service code is:

*147#

Use this code when you need Cell C account options, balance enquiries, bundle options, recharge menus, settings, emergency recharge, or support menus. Because Cell C may change menu wording and option numbers, use the option label shown on your phone rather than forcing a remembered number.

Cell C emergency airtime and emergency data

Cell C’s emergency airtime page says users can dial *147#, select Emergency Recharge, and follow the menu prompts. Cell C’s emergency data page says Emergency Data can be accessed by dialling *147# from a Cell C number and following the prompts for Emergency Data or WhatsApp under the Emergency Recharge menu. (Cell C)

Before accepting emergency airtime or emergency data, check:

Cell C’s emergency data page says Emergency Data is available to qualifying Prepaid and TopUp customers who have been on the Cell C network for at least 30 days before the request and have recharged with at least R10 every 30 days. It also says customers can check whether they qualify by dialling *147# and selecting Emergency Recharge. (Cell C)

Cell C Airtime Share

Cell C’s Airtime Share page says users can dial *147#, select Airtime Share, activate the service, choose an amount, enter a Cell C Prepaid or Top Up number, and confirm the transaction. Cell C states on that page that there are no fees associated with Airtime Share transactions, and that both sender and recipient receive an SMS after the transaction is completed. (Cell C)

Only share airtime with a number you have checked carefully. If you send airtime to the wrong number, contact Cell C quickly and keep the transaction SMS.

Cell C data and phone settings

If mobile data, MMS, or internet settings are not working, Cell C’s support FAQ lists four GPRS/MMS activation routes: Self-Service IVR through 135, USSD by dialling *147# and choosing option 8, manual configuration on the website, or calling 135 for devices that are not OTA enabled. (Cell C)

After requesting settings, save the settings sent to your phone, restart the device if needed, and test mobile data again. If it still does not work, check coverage, bundle status, APN settings, SIM status, and whether mobile data is enabled.

Stop unwanted Cell C content billing

If your airtime is disappearing and you suspect WASP or premium content billing, use the official operator and WASPA routes instead of relying on random third-party numbers. WASPA says Cell C users can use *133*1# to block all existing and future content billing. (waspa.org.za)

After using the block route, check your airtime again after your next recharge. If you are still being billed, contact Cell C customer care and ask for active content services, subscription records, dates, and cancellation confirmation.

SIM, PUK and Customer Support Codes

Cell C PUK code route

If your SIM asks for a PUK, stop guessing. Too many incorrect PUK attempts can permanently block the SIM. Cell C lists five ways to get a PUK: Cell C Mobile App, Cell C website Self-Service, Self-Service IVR through 135, USSD by dialling *147# → option 9 → option 5 → option 2, or calling 135 and choosing option 9 to speak to an agent. (Cell C)

Use the USSD route only if your SIM can still access the menu. If the SIM is blocked, lost, stolen, or cannot connect to the network, use the Cell C App, website Self-Service, customer care, or a Cell C store.

Cell C SIM swap support

A SIM swap is used when you want to keep your existing Cell C number but need a replacement SIM because the old SIM is lost, stolen, damaged, or no longer working. Cell C’s support FAQ says that if a SIM is lost, stolen, or damaged, users can buy a new Cell C starter pack from participating outlets and follow the SIM swap steps. It lists Self-Service IVR, a Cell C store, or calling 084135 or 135 and choosing option 9 to speak to an agent as SIM swap support routes. (Cell C)

Contact Cell C directly if:

Do not share OTPs, banking PINs, app passwords, or Self-Service PINs with anyone who calls or messages you first.

Cell C customer care code and support routes

For customer care from a Cell C number, dial:

135

For customer care from another network, dial:

084 135

Cell C’s contact page lists 135 for Cell C customers and 084 135 for non-Cell C customers. It also lists 147 as a quick info line from a Cell C line, and says calls made from another network or Telkom line are charged at normal rates. (Cell C)

Use customer care when:

Cell C also says its WhatsApp bot can be used to buy data, buy airtime, check your balance, or manage your account by sending “Hello” or “Hi” to 084 444 0040. (Cell C)

Cell C Troubleshooting and Last-Verified Notes

If *101# is not working

If the Cell C balance check code does not work, try these steps:

  1. Check that you are using a Cell C SIM.
  2. Make sure the phone has signal.
  3. Dial the code exactly as *101#.
  4. Turn flight mode on and off, then try again.
  5. Restart the phone.
  6. Try *147# and choose the balance option shown on the live menu.
  7. Use SMS “bal” or “balance” to 14302 if you only need your balance.
  8. Use the Cell C App, website Self-Service, WhatsApp bot, or customer care if USSD still fails.

A failed USSD session does not always mean your account has no airtime or data. It may be a temporary menu issue, network issue, weak signal, inactive SIM, phone setting, or account restriction.

If *147# is not working

If the Cell C self service code does not open:

  1. Confirm that the SIM is active and connected to the Cell C network.
  2. Move to an area with stronger signal.
  3. Try again after a few minutes.
  4. Restart the phone.
  5. Check whether other short codes work.
  6. Use the Cell C App or website Self-Service.
  7. Call 135 from a Cell C number or 084 135 from another network if the issue is urgent.

Use direct Cell C support instead of repeated USSD attempts when the issue involves SIM swap, PUK, fraud, stolen SIM, missing recharge, billing, or a blocked account.

If a voucher recharge fails

If a Cell C voucher recharge fails, do not throw the voucher away. Check the PIN, dial *102*voucherPIN# again only if you are sure the first attempt did not succeed, and then check your balance. If the voucher still fails, keep the voucher and contact Cell C with the voucher PIN, recharge amount, purchase time, store name, and the Cell C number you tried to recharge.

If a data purchase fails

If you selected a data bundle and the purchase failed, wait for the confirmation SMS before trying again. Check whether airtime was deducted. Then check your data balance using *101#*147#, the Cell C App, or website Self-Service. If airtime was deducted but no bundle was allocated, contact Cell C and provide the date, time, amount, USSD code used, bundle selected, and any SMS or error message.

Fees, limits, expiry and eligibility

Bundle prices, validity periods, emergency recharge rules, access fees, promotional rules, subscription settings, and eligibility requirements can change. Check the live USSD confirmation screen, Cell C App, Cell C website, or Cell C customer care before confirming. Where a fee or rule matters to the decision, do not rely on an old third-party article or screenshot.
